British Army Logistics Specialists partake in supply chain study tour in conjunction with RCS Logistics and CILT

12 December 2016/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Logistics & Supply Chain

At the start of December, Logistics Specialists in the Royal Logistic Corps serving with 7 Regiment took part in a three day Continuing Professional Development Event designed to expand their knowledge of warehousing and logistics in a civilian environment.

On the first day, the soldiers learnt about a range of supply chain topics including an introduction to logistics and supply chain management, logistics in the defence sector, warehousing and distribution and professional development and career opportunities in logistics and supply chain management, amongst others.

The second day saw 30 personnel from 7 Regiment RLC visit RCS Logistics, an award-winning 3PL provider based in Corby, where they learnt about efficient practices within a commercial setting. Focusing on both warehousing and distribution, the aim of the visit was to provide the Logistics Specialists with an opportunity to increase their logistics and supply chain knowledge and provide an exposure to best practice from industry, thereby helping them develop a broader understanding of logistics and supply chain operations both within the military and commercial organisations.

Stephanie Leigh, Sales & Marketing Manager at RCS Logistics added: “It was a pleasure to host the event with 7 Regiment RLC and for us to share best practice methods. The visit covered all aspects of our operations and we also gained valuable insight into military logistics that we can also take into consideration for our own operations.”

On the final day, the junior NCOs were encouraged to take a more active role in their careers by enrolling in professional development courses such as those offered by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). A detailed presentation about the benefits of professional membership and qualifications was delivered by Lynn Mentiply of the CILT to 7 Regiment RLC at their barracks in Leicestershire.

Lynn Mentiply, CILT Regional Officer added: “The CILT support career enhancement and networking, so would like to thank all those who took part in the Logistics Study Tour, along with the 7 Regiment RLC, for this wonderful opportunity to share industry knowledge and support professional development.”

The study week concluded with feedback presentations by the participating soldiers, delivered in groups to a panel consisting of the Officer Commanding (OC) 68 Squadron (Maj Swales MBE) and members of the in-house training team.
