CILT (UK) Cymru Wales Richard Trevithick Lecture 2026 - Welsh transport journalism before and after devolution

Time: 25 March 2026, 18:00 - 19:30

Where: Zoom

Speaker: Rhodri Clark, Freelance Journalist

Joint event with CILT (UK), ICE and CIHT

Rhodri Clark is well known for his coverage of Welsh transport issues, both in the popular and specialist press. We are delighted that he will join us to give his perspective on covering developments in the transport industry both before and after devolution, as well as a wider perspective on how transport journalism has changed generally over the past 15 years. As a highly respected journalist, this promises to be a fascinating insight into the transport industry and how a changing policy environment has shaped it today.

Rhodri graduated in music in 1990 and began contributing to Modern Railways in the same year. He became a trainee reporter with the Western Mail in 1991, on condition that he learned to drive. He was based in the Western Mail’s Cardiff and Swansea offices before becoming its North Wales reporter in 1997. He worked part-time for the Western Mail for 13 years, writing also for the transport trade press, and became wholly freelance in 2008. He now writes for various publications, including Modern Railways, Local Transport Today, Passenger Transport and Buses, and provides radio and TV commentary on Welsh transport for the BBC and S4C.
