Speaker: Simon Pringle, Visiting Professor of Sustainability and Innovation – University of Chester
And Managing Director, Project Rome Ltd

Climate change has been firmly on the agenda of leading businesses for some considerable time.  Those businesses understand that value is both created and protected by focussing on more than just financial capital.  Given the risks to their reputation and shareholder value, some corporates are beginning to provide leadership where governments are slow to act.

They are doing this against a background where activism is on the rise; placing brands and reputations at ever-greater risk.  Whether that activism is represented by Extinction Rebellion disrupting cities or a coalition of investors with nearly US$10 trillion in assets targeting companies for not reporting their climate change, water security or biodiversity data, the shift in public sentiment over the last few years has been profound.

For most organisations, effective supply chain management is the critical part of delivering on a truly sustainable business model.  The majority of climate impact, water consumption and other resource usage tends to sit in the supply chain. As carbon targets are set and expectations of transparency rise, the need to address it becomes an issue of commercial self-interest.

We risk moving away from a world of stability and international rules-based co-operation to one where change and uncertainty is the norm. If business as usual is no longer an option, how will organisations effectively navigate the changes that are to come?  Our speaker Simon Pringle will talk about supply chain and sustainability, offering a different perspective of how sustainability can viewed, information captured and reported.

Simon Pringle is a leading expert in commercial strategy, innovation and sustainability.  He has over 25 years’ experience of working with organisations to align their commercial and sustainability strategies – helping create value, protect value and manage risk.  He sits on a number of advisory boards and governance panels.

Refreshments and a light buffet will be provided.
