At Heriot-Watt University we trace our heritage back to 1821 since when our community of scholars has been developing transformational solutions to specific global problems. We are specialists in engineering, business and science and leaders in innovative global education for a future world. We are a truly global university with five campuses across the world - Edinburgh, Scottish Borders, Orkney, Dubai and Malaysia - as well as collaborative partners in 150 countries.

We currently have over 30,000 students studying with us at our campuses and online through distance learning, with over 130,00 alumni in almost 200 countries worldwide. Our alumni community has an enviable track record in terms of employability with over 95% in employment or further study within six months of graduation. We are proud of the quality of our research – the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 ranked 86.8% of Heriot-Watt's research as world-leading or internationally excellent. We also emphasise the practical impact of our scientific research and are ranked in the top 10 in the UK and 1st in Scotland for research impact.

At Heriot-Watt we have been actively engaged in teaching and research in the logistics and supply chain management (LSCM) area for several decades. As well as offering postgraduate programmes in Logistics & Supply Chain Management and Operations Management, our Operations Management & Logistics team, led by Professor Ed Sweeney, contributes to a wide range of courses and programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Our LSCM research is undertaken in the hugely successful Centre for Logistics & Sustainability, led by Professor Phil Greening.   Our rapidly growing research portfolio incorporates many collaborative projects with industry and other universities. The Centre for Sustainable Road Freight is a collaboration with Cambridge University and the University of Westminster, with a strong cohort of industrial partners covering technology, operations and policy. We are at the forefront of LSCM research with experience in a broad spectrum of issues that affect the management, integration, transformation, modelling and impact of supply chain activities.

Our staff are active in the CILT, both through CILT Scotland and the Logistics Research Network (LRN). We hosted the LRN annual conference back in 2001 and are now looking forward to doing so again in 2023.
