Matthews International transport Ltd. was set-up by Trevor Matthews in 1971, and began operating out of the port in Great Yarmouth. We delivered refrigerated trailers loaded with smoked fish to Italy and Greece, and collected unaccompanied trailers - arriving at the port from Holland - for delivery throughout the UK.

In 1982 the company set up a new venture, entering into a partnership with two companies - one in Holland and one in Scotland - supplying transport services for the Oil and Gas Industries.

Over the years, the business grew and diversified into many forms of operation. The main refrigerated side of the business developed into a network of depots in France, Holland and Hungary; with warehousing and cold storage facilities in Great Yarmouth, South Kirkby and Holland.

Today, our core business is offering temperature-controlled services within the UK and Europe, mainly on behalf of several large pharmaceutical companies.

We have a fleet of over one hundred vehicles, all operating between 40 and 44 tonnes and conforming to Euro 5 or Euro 6 emission specifications. Our trailers can operate between +25°C and -25°C, with some trailers being able to carry split-temperature loads and most of them having
twin decks capable of carrying 66 pallets.

Our drivers are all fully ADR and CPC qualified, while most are also Airport Security qualified which is a requirement for the many deliveries we make each day to UK airports. 

Today, in addition to the Great Yarmouth head office, we also operate depots in Bury St Edmunds, Doncaster and Folkestone, as well as a Sales Office in Leeds.

The Folkestone site was set-up in 2014 to offer a frozen and chilled pallet service to Europe, with regular weekly deliveries to France, Spain, Germany, Italy and Benelux countries. It also offers storage and transhipping facilities.
