Eddie Stobart has announced it is the 100th partner of the Northern Powerhouse, a campaign to boost the local economy through investment in skills, innovation, transport and culture.

To celebrate the partnership, Eddie Stobart welcomed the Minister for the Northern Powerhouse, Jake Berry, to its headquarters in Appleton, Warrington, where a new co-branded trailer was unveiled. As part of the Minister’s visit, he was taken on a tour of Eddie Stobart’s facilities, including the Training Academy. The Minister also met with two of the company’s apprentices to hear about their roles at Eddie Stobart and working in the North.

Alex Laffey, CEO of Eddie Stobart, said; “As one of the country’s most high profile brands playing a key supporting role for UK plc, we’re extremely proud of our northern roots and honoured to be supporting diverse business growth right across the North. We have worked hard to re-define standards in logistics and lay foundations for tomorrow’s supply chain needs through our training programme. As we head into 2018, we will be continuing to support the local economy through investing in skills and bringing new people into our industry.”

In September, Eddie Stobart opened the doors of its Training Academy as part of its wider strategy to supply qualified drivers and warehouse operatives to businesses through their supply chain resource services.

Minister for the Northern Powerhouse, Jake Berry said, “I’m delighted to announce that our 100th Northern Powerhouse partner is transport and logistics leader Eddie Stobart. As a big employer in the Warrington area, I was deeply impressed with their focus on skills training for their next generation of employees and the way they share best practice standards across their industry.

“They are the first of our partners to carry our new Northern Powerhouse campaign branding and I look forward to seeing the message of the government’s commitment to moving the Northern Powerhouse from a vision into reality driven forward on one of Eddie Stobart’s iconic lorries.”
