TfL travel information for the Easter period

29 March 2021/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Active Travel & Travel Planning, Bus & Coach, Rail, Transport Planning, Coronavirus

The majority of the Transport for London (TfL) network will be running over the long Easter weekend, however there will be some closures for essential maintenance and improvements.

The current Government guidance remains that everyone should continue to work from home if they can and minimise travel wherever possible.

Customers who need to travel over the Easter weekend are urged to check before they travel, plan for quiet times and consider alternative options such as walking or cycling.

TfL Rail services out of Liverpool Street will be impacted by work to extend platforms at the station ahead of longer trains being introduced later in the year. This will affect weekend and weekday services between Good Friday (2 April) and Sunday 11 April.

• There will be no trains between Liverpool Street and Shenfield during the Easter weekend (Friday 2 April to Monday 5 April) or the following weekend (Saturday 10 April and Sunday 11 April). Regular rail replacement buses will run, calling at all stations except Maryland.

• Between Tuesday 6 April to Friday 9 April, there will be no service between Liverpool Street and Stratford. Customers can use the Central line or Greater Anglia services for journeys between the two stations.

There will be no London Overground service from Romford to Upminster and from Hackney Wick to Stratford between Good Friday and Easter Monday. There will be no service between Hackney Downs to Enfield Town and Cheshunt (via Seven Sisters) after 22:45 from Easter Monday until Thursday 8 April. From Tuesday 6 April until Thursday 8 April, there will also be no service between Sydenham and West Croydon after 23:30.

Over the Easter weekend, the Northern line will not run between Charing Cross and Stockwell and between Euston and Stockwell on the Bank branch to allow vital work on the Northern line extension and Bank station upgrade. There will also be no service on the Piccadilly line between Wood Green and Cockfosters due to essential maintenance.

London’s buses will operate a Saturday service on Good Friday and a Sunday service will run on Easter Monday.

Some non-TfL related road closures will be taking place in London over the long weekend including around London Bridge, Camden Road, Catford and Shoreditch. These closures will mean some buses may be diverted.

TfL has been operating services across the network at as close to normal as possible to help social distancing for those who need to travel, but like other businesses, could be affected by staff absence. This could mean some changes to service frequency or some station closures. The latest service information will be available online and through TfL travel tools including the TfL Go app. Customers are advised to check their journey before they travel, and consider alternative routes including walking and cycling options.

Face coverings must continue to be worn, covering both the mouth and nose, for the full duration of a journey, unless an exemption applies. TfL’s enforcement officers and the police are keeping everyone safe by stopping people without exemptions from using public transport until they put on a face covering.

TfL's enhanced cleaning regime continues to make the network cleaner than ever. Trains, trams, buses and stations are cleaned with hospital-grade cleaning substances that kill viruses and bacteria on contact and provide ongoing protection.  Since September, Imperial College London has carried out monthly testing for all coronavirus variants on the network, with every sample having no traces of the virus.
