Express transportation company FedEx has announced plans to open two new state-of-the-art logistics hubs close to its existing Kingsbury/Atherstone and Marston Gate sites.

The new hubs are expected to be operational by 2029 and each will be able to sort 32,000 packs per hour and process different types of deliveries for customers, including international freight and e-commerce shipments.

FedEx noted this is a strategic move that consolidates its existing road hub infrastructure from five hubs into two brand new facilities, incorporating advanced technologies to enhance service for customers.

The company believes this will unlock growth for UK businesses across many sectors, including SMEs looking to trade internationally and will also provide a more comfortable working environment for team members.

Rob Peto, vice president of operations, FedEx said: "We are excited about plans to renew our hub infrastructure in the UK and commit in the creation of two new delivery hubs.

“This is a substantial commitment into the UK and will mean we’re well positioned for future growth with a dynamic, flexible and efficient end-to-end network.

“It will also present exciting opportunities for our team members over the long term and further enhance the service we deliver to our customers.’’

While there are no changes for its employees in the short term, FedEx stated the multi-year project will affect working locations for some team members across its hubs.

FedEx explained that the company is committed to working closely with union and team member representatives on the delivery of the project to ensure team members are properly supported.
