DHL eCommerce UK doubles LNG fleet with 30 new Volvo trucks to cut emissions

DHL eCommerce UK has announced that its fleet of liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered vehicles has doubled as the company introduces 30 new Volvo FM trucks, increasing the total to 60.

DHL’s new fleet will be distributed across key sites in Coventry, Leicester, Birmingham and Milton Keynes, and operate on routes throughout the UK.

The trucks will also replace the company’s current diesel vehicles, contributing to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).

According to DHL, each LNG truck has a range of up to 400 miles and emits up to 80% less GHG emissions compared to a traditional diesel truck when fuelled with Bio-LNG.

The expanded fleet is projected to reduce annual GHG emissions by more than 1,000 metric tons of CO2e – as part of DHL’s overall decarbonisation strategy.

To support the drive to sustainability DHL eCommerce has also announed it is investing in additional refuelling infrastructure, including a secondary Bio-LNG tank at its new state-of-the-art hub in Coventry.

DHL said the site will serve as a critical hub for DHL’s growing low-GHG-emissions operations in the Midlands and beyond.

Stuart Hill, CEO, DHL eCommerce, UK says: “We’re delighted to expand our fleet with lower GHG emission vehicles and take diesel trucks off the roads.

“As a business, we are committed to being at the forefront of sustainable logistics so we will continue to make the necessary investments to reduce our GHG emissions footprint as we work towards our sustainability targets.”
