Remembering Reg Harman

Institute News

20 January 2026/Categories: CILT, Institute News, Membership

We were saddened to hear of the death of Reg Harman, who passed away shortly before Christmas, aged 82.

Reg was a former Director of Policy at the Chartered Institute of Transport (CIT) during the 1990s and remained actively involved in the Institute’s work for many years. A transport planner by profession, he worked with organisations including Hertfordshire County Council and SERPLAN, with a particular focus on public transport, land-use planning and integrated transport.

He had extensive knowledge of European transport practice and published several professional articles, especially on high-speed rail and urban tram systems. Outside his professional life, Reg was a keen model railway enthusiast and regularly exhibited his layouts.

A memorial service will be held on 27 January at 1.00 pm at All Saints Church, Hertford, SG13 8AY. Dress will be informal. CILT (UK) members who knew Reg are particularly invited.
