Why Freight Matters: A Spotlight Session with Dr Daniela Paddeu

Join us for an inspiring and insight‑rich session with Dr Daniela Paddeu, Associate Professor of Sustainable Freight Futures at UWE Bristol and a leading researcher in innovative and sustainable freight transport. With extensive experience across UK and European research programmes, Dr Paddeu brings a wealth of knowledge on how freight shapes our daily lives, our economy, and the future of transport policy.

In this session, Daniela will explore why freight matters for everyone—from citizens and businesses to planners, policymakers, and professionals working at the interface of goods movement. She will highlight how freight is often overlooked in decision‑making, relegated to the dreaded afterthought of “…and freight”, and why this mindset must change.

Taking centre stage will be Daniela’s work within the Triple Access Planning for Uncertain Futures consortium—a major pan‑European partnership advancing new approaches to mobility planning by integrating physical mobility, spatial proximity, and digital connectivity into more resilient, future‑ready frameworks.

Daniela will also share insights from her latest research projects, illustrating the critical role freight plays in sustainable transport systems, decarbonisation, and shaping thriving, adaptable urban environments.

If you work in transport, logistics, planning, sustainability, or simply want to better understand the systems that keep society moving, this session promises to be both eye‑opening and essential.

Although aimed at the Welsh market the content will be equally applicable to the whole of the UK.
