Excellence in Operations

Operational Excellence in Logistics & Transport

Recognises organisations that demonstrate outstanding performance, efficiency, and innovation across day-to-day logistics, warehousing, transport operations, and transport planning, delivering measurable improvements in reliability, service quality, and overall value. This award celebrates operational excellence achieved through effective planning, execution, and continuous improvement across the end-to-end supply chain.

Judging criteria:

  • Judges will assess submissions against the following:

  • On-time delivery, warehouse throughput, and service reliability metrics

  • (including order accuracy, pick/pack performance, and transport schedule adherence)

  • Cost efficiency and resource optimisation

  • (effective use of labour, fleet, space, inventory, and planning capability)

  • Transport planning and warehouse planning effectiveness

  • (route optimisation, load planning, demand forecasting, capacity planning, and coordination between warehouse and transport operations)

  • Continuous improvement culture and KPIs achieved

  • (use of performance data, process optimisation, and measurable improvement over time)

  • Operational resilience and risk management

  • (ability to manage disruptions, demand variability, labour constraints, and peak periods)

  • Customer satisfaction and quality performance

  • (service levels, accuracy, responsiveness, and customer feedback)

Excellence in Operations and Supply Chain Management

Recognises organisations that have delivered exceptional improvement in supply chain performance, resilience, and responsiveness over the past year.

Judging criteria:

  • Demonstrable before-and-after performance metrics (e.g., lead times, service levels, cost)

  • Strategic transformation initiatives and execution

  • Improved collaboration and supplier performance

  • Measurable impact on customers and stakeholders

  • Evidence of sustained improvement culture

Excellence in Passenger Transport

Achieves outstanding improvements in passenger service, implements new technology, equipment or information management, demonstrates improvements in organisation or human resources and champions environmental sensitivity.

Awarded to an organisation in any mode of passenger transport that:

Excellence in the use of Technology

Celebrates organisations that demonstrate outstanding use of digital technologies, automation, and AI to enhance efficiency, resilience, and performance across logistics, transport, and supply chain operations. This award recognises measurable improvements in productivity, accuracy, safety, sustainability, and customer outcomes driven by innovative technology adoption.

Judging criteria:

  • Level of innovation and integration of automation technologies

  • Quantifiable efficiency or throughput improvements

  • Reduction in errors, waste, or manual labour

  • Safety and ergonomics enhancements

  • Demonstrated ROI and scalability of solution

  • Originality and creativity of the technology application

  • Business impact (cost, performance, or customer experience)

  • Integration and scalability of digital systems

  • Demonstrable use of data and analytics for decision-making

Excellence in Environmental Impact

Acknowledges initiatives that significantly reduce environmental impact led logistics, distribution and transport activities.

Criteria:

  • Tangible reductions in energy consumption and/ or waste

  • Innovation in sustainable materials, fuel transition, technology adoption or application of best practice

  • Alignment with wider ESG goals and industry standards

  • Measurable long-term environmental benefits

  • Stakeholder engagement and transparency in reporting

CILT(UK)

Logistics Research Network

The award targets industry-focused research projects co-developed and co-delivered through partnerships between industry-based organisations and academic institutions.

Judging criteria:

  • the project has been co-developed and co-delivered by an industry partner and academic institution(s).

  • the project addressed a timely topic and real-world challenges of significant relevance for the advancement of

  • knowledge and business and/or technological innovation in logistics, freight transport, operations and supply

  • chain management.

  • the project generated tangible and substantial impact, e.g., solutions, tools, technologies, managerial frameworks,

  • methods, recommendations, among other outputs.

  • the project has shown that it can deliver improvements to an industry sector and key stakeholders, e.g., cost

  • reduction, revenue and/or improved sustainable performance.

  • the project demonstrated excellence in the co-creation of state-of-the-art knowledge and industry application of

  • science, technology, engineering, or management.

  • the project delivers business and/or technological innovation and demonstrates significant impact and substantial

  • transformation of the businesses involved.

  • the project has potential to contribute to the evolution of the industry partner and the research track record of the

  • academic partner(s).

  • the project provides advancement in academic knowledge, expands organisational capabilities, and/or creates new market opportunities
