Strategic Rail Policy
The Strategic Rail Policy Group leads CILT(UK) policy development in the rail sector. It reacts to national rail policy issues, producing technical papers and reports concerning the rail industry.
How our Strategic Rail Policy Group works
It is a group comprised of professionals from all parts of the rail sector, including organisations that support rail activities. It discusses topical issues that relate to rail, covering both passenger and freight activities. In addition, it reviews and considers current and proposed national and significant regional policies.
Given that rail is often seen as part of an overall journey, the Policy Group also has an interested in the inter-connectivity of rail with other transport modes.
The Policy Group produces various reports and papers on topical issues, some of which are published by the Institute while others appear in Focus magazine. The Policy Group also responds to consultations (both governmental and non-governmental), issues comment on relevant major governmental policies (including legislation) and provides, where appropriate, expert advice to government.
A key factor in the reports and papers that the Policy Group issues is that they use the expertise of its members who have widespread sector knowledge but are non-political and independent of any particular trade group or business.
The Policy Group meets every 6-8 weeks throughout most of the year and has an active membership.
