Evri has begun a three-month trial of autonomous delivery robots in Barnsley, working in partnership with Delivers AI The pilot programme will explore how robotics can enhance last-mile parcel deliveries while supporting local couriers and expanding delivery options for customers.
The electric robots operate from the Barnsley Business and Innovation Centre and are remotely monitored by both companies. Designed to function day and night, the robots are programmed to follow traffic regulations and can be manually controlled if they encounter obstacles or other issues during their routes.

According to Marcus Hunter, chief technology officer at Evri Group, the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to improving customer experience through innovation. He said the robots are intended to work alongside couriers, helping to boost speed, convenience and flexibility rather than replace existing roles.
The trial is focused on a limited area of Redbrook in Barnsley. Residents can check their eligibility using their postcode and have the option to opt out at any stage.
Evri said insights gathered from the pilot will help determine whether the technology could be rolled out more widely in the future.
