CILT (UK) was delighted to return to Multimodal, the UK and Ireland’s leading supply chain and logistics event, at the NEC in Birmingham from Tuesday 30 June to Thursday 2 July.

The three-day show provided CILT (UK) with the unique opportunity to engage with members, partners and colleagues from across the sector and celebrate 100 years of chartership.
As part of our centenary celebrations, visitors and members of the Institute shared their stories and reflected on their careers - whilst also looking to the future. A popular addition to our stall for this year was the CILT (UK) photobooth, which was an opportunity for connection and community – key pillars for growth and development in our industries.
CILT (UK)’s commitment to professionalising the sector and creating a future-ready workforce was represented across two key sessions that took place during the week.
The first of these sessions included a panel discussion titled ‘Targeting Infrastructure for Growth: Unlocking the UK's Supply Chain Potential’, led by Sue Terpilowski, Chair of the CILT (UK) Public Policy Committee. Sue was joined by Julian Worth, Chair of the CILT (UK) Rail Freight Forum, Neil Gould, Chair of the Freight and Logistics Policy Group, and Dominic Scholfield, Chair of the CILT (UK) Environmental Policy Group. Their session explored how infrastructure investment can be better aligned to support national growth, enable decarbonisation and strengthen supply chain resilience. Our panel debated the benefits of decentralisation in policy, integrated energy systems, the embedding of operational resilience into planning, and the importance of transport within a wider discussion of defence.
"Freight is a network, not a selection of separate assets."

In addition, Shaun Fardy, Director of Professional Development and Standards at CILT (UK), took part in a panel discussion on ‘Bridging Generations: Developing Skills that Power the Next Decade of Supply Chain’. Shaun was joined by Lucy Westgarth, ESG Lead at Leidos Europe, Charlie Molnar, Business Development Manager at DHL, Alice Bulpin, Programme Manager at Transport for Wales, and Greg McDougall, Head of Logistics & Warehousing at Cranswick Continental Foods. The panel of emerging leaders and senior professionals discussed the skills they believe will influence the future of supply chain operations; from resilience and digital fluency to sustainability and cross-sector collaboration. Together they unpacked how organisations can invest in development pathways that attract, retain and empower the next wave of logistics talent.

CILT (UK)’s participation at Multimodal 2026 highlights the Institute’s ongoing dedication to supporting professional development and career advancement across logistics, transport and supply chain. The engaging discussions and connections made throughout the event will continue to inform CILT (UK)’s purpose to equip professionals with the skills, knowledge and qualifications necessary to thrive in an evolving industry whilst addressing any upcoming challenges in the sector.
