The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK (CILT(UK)) has held a positive and encouraging introductory meeting with the Welsh Government’s Deputy Minister for Transport, Mark Hooper MS, marking an important step in strengthening our engagement with the new administration.

The discussion provided an opportunity for CILT(UK) to reinforce its role as a professional and constructive partner which can support and advise the Welsh Government in delivering its goals.

Several key themes emerged during the meeting, including:

  • The importance of delivery and implementation alongside policy development

  • The role of freight, logistics and resilience in supporting economic growth

  • Bus reform and public transport integration

  • The need to strengthen skills and professional capability across transport and logistics

The conversation also highlighted the value of CILT(UK’s) role in bringing together practitioners, operators, public bodies and technical experts.

As part of the next steps, CILT(UK) will look to organise a series of roundtable and engagement sessions with the Minister and Welsh Government officials. The Deputy Minister welcomed the proposal and expressed strong support for continued engagement with the sector.

Daniel Parker-Klein, Director of Policy, Communications and Insight at CILT(UK), said: “This was a positive and informative discussion – as well as being an important first step in establishing CILT(UK) as a trusted partner to the new Welsh Government."

“As a professional body, CILT(UK) is well placed to bring together expertise from across industry, operations and the public sector to support informed discussion with joint solutions. We look forward to continuing that dialogue with Welsh Government in the months ahead and beyond.” Michael Whittaker, Chair of CILT(UK) Cymru, added: “It was encouraging to see a positive approach at this early stage. The discussions showed us a clear understanding the critical role transport and logistics play in our Welsh communities and economic growth."

“CILT(UK) Cymru looks forward to working closely with Welsh Government - helping bring together professional expertise from across the sector. Today is a stepping stone to ensure that policy ambitions are matched by practical delivery and long-term collaboration.”
