Thirteen state-of-the-art vehicles set to hit the road in Surrey this month, supported by a major depot upgrade by VEV. London UK, 10th July – Falcon Buses is accelerating towards a greener future with the rollout of 13 new electric buses and a landmark depot upgrade that will help transform public transport across Surrey. Supported by Surrey County Council and the Department for Transport’s ZEBRA 2 scheme, the state-of-the-art electric buses are set to hit the road across Falcon's network this month, heralding a new era of quieter, cleaner journeys for passengers while delivering a carbon saving of around 13,000 tonnes over their lifetime.
Based out of West Byfleet, the family-owned business is one of the first independent small bus operators to go electric, working in partnership with commercial fleet experts VEV to transform its depot on Wintersells Road to accommodate its growing fleet of EVs.
VEV has delivered a complete charging solution for the site, including a dedicated 1,500kVA power supply together with six 60kW chargers and three 120kW chargers. All charging infrastructure will be managed through VEV’s award-winning smart charging and digital energy management platform, VEV IQ, which will monitor and optimise power usage, charging scheduling, and charger status to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability for the fleet.
Speaking at the official launch of the new fleet at Brooklands Museum this week, Richard Telling, Managing Director at Falcon Buses, said: "This is a hugely significant milestone for Falcon. Working with VEV has enabled us to build the infrastructure we need not only for the first 13 electric buses entering service today, but for the continued growth of our fleet over the coming months and years as we work towards our goal of an all-electric bus fleet by 2033.

Electrifying fleets
The project marks another milestone in VEV's growing portfolio of bus electrification projects, delivering the power infrastructure and charging technology required to support Falcon’s transition to all-electric operations for their 58-strong bus fleet.
A second phase of infrastructure, due to be completed later this year, will increase charging capacity to five 120kW chargers, five 60kW chargers and two 50kW chargers, ensuring the depot is ready to support Falcon's long-term electrification plans. By using a REGO-backed renewable electricity supply, Falcon is expected to further reduce emissions by around 168 tonnes of CO₂e annually compared with a standard electricity supply.

New vehicles supplied by Alexander Dennis
Falcon was the first independent operator to place an order for Alexander Dennis’s next generation Enviro200EV single decker. At 10.9m long, each vehicle seats up to 37 passengers across 31 fixed seats and six tip-ups in two wheelchair bays, flexibly maximising travel opportunities for passengers with reduced mobility and those travelling with pushchairs.
