A city in the UK has been named in the top 5 best cities across the world for public transport - the only location in Great Britain to be shortlisted.
Global magazine, Time Out, has revealed the best cities across the world when it comes to public transport services in 2026, asking over 24,000 locals to rate the public transport where they live on a scale of one to five. To keep things global, Time Out only allowed each country one spot on the list, so only its top-scoring city made the cut.

The Scottish capital, Edinburgh, sits at number four on the Time Out list with a 92.4% approval from locals who rated its public transport systems. The city saw the fourth highest percentage of residents who rated their buses, trains and trams as “good” or “amazing”.
Time Out credits Lothian Buses for Edinburgh’s success, with the operator carrying 119 million customers in 2025, while Edinburgh Trams had a record-breaking year with 12.5 million. In their survey responses, Edinburgh locals also enjoyed being able to tap-on with a contactless card and having their fares capped daily or weekly across buses and trams.
Edinburgh narrowly missed out on the top title to Taipei (95%), Singapore (93.5%) and Hong Kong (92.8%), who made up the top three respectively.
