The Institute is delighted to announce the first speakers for its annual conference, taking place on 8 June in Coventry.

Professor Sarah Sharples, Chief Scientific Advisor from Department for Transport (DfT) and Matt Lindley, Boeing 777 pilot, will be delivering keynotes at this year’s conference, which is centred around the theme ‘Future Capabilities’.

Matt Lindley joined the Royal Air Force in 1995 and qualified as a pilot flying the Hawk Fighter Jet.

He then specialised in VIP transport becoming a Training Captain on The Royal Squadron. He was responsible for flying members of the Royal Family, The Prime Minister and Cabinet worldwide for over 10 years.

Matt became a Qualified Flying Instructor and was responsible for training on the RAF Hawker aircraft.

Whilst in the RAF Matt became a civilian Crew Resource Management Instructor, developing a particular interest in non-technical training, human performance and error management.

In 2006, Matt joined a major international airline, initially flying the Airbus A320 and from 2012 to the present day, the Boeing 747-400 and 777. Outside of aviation Matt has worked extensively in a wide variety sectors including healthcare, central government and pharmaceuticals. Matt is an international keynote speaker and has delivered TEDx talks.

Professor Sarah Sharples is Chief Scientific Adviser for the Department for Transport. She is a Professor of Human Factors in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham and from 2018 to 2021 was Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and People.

She has led research in transport, manufacturing and healthcare, and currently leads the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Connected Everything Network Plus.

She founded and is co-director of the EPSRC Horizon Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT), and has led research programmes examining implementation of new technologies in rail, highways and aviation.

She was President of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors from 2015 to 2016.

Sarah will be speaking on the implementation of new technologies in transport. 

The CILT Annual Conference is a pivotal moment in the year for both members and non members. Professionals from across logistics, transport and supply chain gather to benefit from the knowledge and insight on offer.
