Head of Distribution (Inbound and Outbound), Qatar Aluminum
Being a Chartered Member reinforces my commitment to professional excellence and lifelong learning.
"My logistics career spans more than three decades, beginning in 1990 with the United Nations and taking me across some of the world’s most challenging environments, including Sudan, Iraq, Kenya, Liberia, Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Yemen. Working in humanitarian operations taught me that effective logistics is far more than moving goods, it is about ensuring continuity under extreme conditions where supply chains can directly impact lives.
These experiences shaped my approach to logistics and continue to influence my current role as Head of Distribution. Whether managing humanitarian relief operations or overseeing commercial inbound and outbound distribution networks, I have learned that success depends on adaptability, resilience, and continuous improvement. In an industry that evolves rapidly, standing still is not an option. New regulations, technological advancements, geopolitical developments, and sustainability requirements constantly reshape the logistics landscape, making continuous learning essential.
My formal association with CILT(UK) began in January 2023 when I became a member. Since then, I have found significant value in being part of a professional network dedicated to advancing logistics and transport excellence. Beyond the professional recognition, the greatest benefit for me comes from the knowledge and insights shared through CILT publications and industry resources.
The regular magazines, articles, and technical updates provide practical perspectives on current logistics challenges and emerging trends. From understanding supply chain disruptions and evolving transportation strategies to exploring new technologies and best practices, these resources help me remain informed and support sound decision-making in my daily responsibilities.
Being a Chartered Member reinforces my commitment to professional excellence and lifelong learning. It provides access to global best practices and a community of professionals who share a common goal of advancing the logistics profession. I am proud to be part of this network and look forward to continuing to learn, adapt, and contribute to the industry through CILT.
My advice to junior logistics professionals is simple: never stop learning. The logistics sector changes every day, and those who succeed are the ones who look beyond routine operational tasks to understand the broader forces shaping global supply chains. Every challenge, disruption, and unexpected situation presents an opportunity to gain valuable experience. By remaining curious, staying informed, and leveraging professional networks such as CILT, logistics professionals can transform everyday challenges into expertise and build successful, long-term careers."
