100 Years Chartered: Setting the Standard. Advancing our Profession.

100 years of raising the bar. Led by people like you.

Your centenary. Your story.

Every career has a moment that stays with you. The qualification that made you believe in yourself. The letters after your name that showed the world what you're made of. The community that finally got what you do and why it matters.

This is that community. One hundred years of it.

This centenary year, we are putting your stories at the heart of it. Because the profession is not the charter. It is the people who carry it.

Your stories with CILT(UK)...

I joined CIT in 1968 and continued for nearly sixty years in transport. Early years were spent in universities and then in the new PTE SELNEC, later Greater Manchester. My main achievement was getting trams back into Manchester, the first in the UK. I received the Meritorious Award in 2015.

I joined CILT in 2023 to anchor that experience to a global standard. Chartership (CMILT) gave me more than recognition — it connected me to a worldwide community that takes this profession as seriously as I do, and it sharpened how I think about strategy, talent, and the future.

Throughout my time as a member within the CILT, I feel I have been extremely fortunate to benefit from the power of the institute to undertake numerous visits, networking events and meet many high profile speakers. I was grateful to CILT for support and contacts when working with transport disasters. This lead to engagement with many organisations and a series of presentations at Singapore Civil Aviation Authority. Early engagement about impacts on global warming also led to a key book on the subject. The active discussions on this in the Journal have enabled thoughtful contributions from many organisations.
