Mateusz's Story...

The examinations for Membership of the then-Chartered Institute of Transport usefully extended my education in such subjects as economics, accounting, statistics and law. Throughout my 42 years career in the railway industry, membership of the Institute maintained my awareness of the overall context in which I was working. My CILT(UK) story is one of growth, confidence, and the power of mentoring. At a point in my career when I was seeking guidance and exploring future opportunities, I turned to the CILT mentoring programme for support.
Through CILT, I gained access to a network of experienced professionals who generously volunteer their time and expertise to help others develop. I chose Darren as my mentor, and the mentoring sessions we shared proved invaluable. Darren took the time to understand my career journey in logistics, offering guidance, encouragement, and practical advice tailored to my aspirations.
Our discussions helped me gain confidence in my abilities, view challenges from new perspectives, and recognise the potential I have to achieve my goals. Darren also helped me establish realistic timelines and milestones, reinforcing the importance of patience, perseverance, and self-belief in building a successful career in logistics.
What makes CILT truly special is its people. The willingness of members to share their knowledge, experience, and expertise creates a supportive professional community where individuals can learn, grow, and succeed together. My experience with the mentoring programme has demonstrated the real value of professional networks and the positive impact that guidance from experienced professionals can have on someone's career.
For anyone starting out or looking to progress in their profession, my advice is simple: do not hesitate to seek help and guidance from others. There is a wealth of knowledge within the CILT community, and you do not have to navigate your career journey alone.
