In 1760, the Commissioners of Shoreham Harbour met for the first time in an endeavour to make a new cut to the sea to beat the problem of shingle accumulation. This marked the official founding of the Port and in 2010 the Port celebrated its 250th Anniversary, although it existed as an entry to England since Roman times.
Today, Shoreham is a thriving commercial port on the South Coast of England, with a mission is to provide a first-class service to its customers and to continue to develop the excellent infrastructure and facilities to meet customers’ requirements, in a commercially economic and efficient way. Tom Rawlings will give us the background to Shoreham Port and we will then go on a boat trip (sponsored by MCL Transport Consultants Ltd) around the East Arm where the businesses lining the banks of the East Canal will be pointed out.
