Borders Railway extension

Policy & GovernmentWebinarsRail

A decade after the successful reopening of the Borders Railway from Edinburgh to Galashiels and Tweedbank, a study led by Scottish Borders Council is now under way into restoration of the remaining two-thirds of the old Waverley Line through to Carlisle. Former Network Rail permanent way engineer Peter Heubeck is leading the Campaign for Borders Rail's input into the study. Here he tells us about the potential benefits for both passengers and freight of reviving a route that would again bring trains to the Borders' largest town Hawick and then traverse lonely upland country before crossing into England.

This one can have 0.5 CPD hours against:

  • TP1.1 Transport Infrastructure and Network Resilience

  • FM1.1 Freight Transport Operations and Services

  • PAS1.2 Modes, Modal Choice and Transport Integration
