Corporate Members White Papers - Samuel Grant Packaging

The company was established in 1891 by Samuel Grant, and has been passed down through four generations, now being run by his great grandsons, Andrew and Matthew Grant.Samuel Grant Packaging is the North’s biggest packaging distributor, operating from headquarters in Leeds, UK, with sites also in the North East and Sheffield.

The company provides a full-service packaging consultancy, with a mission to deliver expert advice, followed by optimum packaging solutions delivered on time every time.

From one-man bands to huge corporations, Samuel Grant Packaging is known for their excellent customer service and total dedication to helping their clients’ products reach their destination in perfect condition, using as little packaging as possible to achieve the best results in terms of quality, environmental impact, and cost.

In 2018 the company was awarded the Queen’s Award for Innovation in honour of their fixed-price-per-wrapped-pallet turnkey pallet wrapping solution, the Samson Nano. In 2021 they opened the Samson Nano Lab to test pallet stability, launching their Slingshot, which allows companies to certify their loads to exacting EUMOS standards for pallet stability.

This type of pallet stability testing machinery is already making an impact in Mainland Europe, but the Slingshot is the first of its kind to be installed in the UK and unique to Samuel Grant Packaging. The Samson Nano Slingshot replicates the inertia of a vehicle and whether the load will potentially displace. The machine can initially test at 0.1G and work up to the EUMOS standard of 0.8G.  From the pallet data entered, the maximum deformation of the load is calculated to create a pass or fail.

EUMOS is the European Safe Logistics Association who are aiming to reduce the number of fatalities to Zero by 2050 instilling safer working practices throughout the supply chain and have created standards which are industry recognised.  By using the Samson Nano Slingshot, Samuel Grant Packaging can certify to the EUMOS:40509 2020 safety standards.
