Asda Logistics Services (ALS)

Asda Logistics Services (ALS) manages warehousing, transport, fleet, logistics and reverse logistics on behalf of ASDA, servicing over 576 stores across the UK.

Founded in the 1960s, ASDA today is one of Britain’s leading retailers with over 180,000 dedicated colleagues serving 18 million customers.

Part of the Wal-Mart Group, it is the second largest supermarket chain in the UK.

Over the last 25 years, ALS‘ operation has moved from servicing big warehouses, big trucks and big stores to a complex multiformat, multichannel retailer; delivering excellent customer service from Supercentres and Superstores to sand-alone Petrol Filling Stations and Click & Collect drop boxes.

We have 38 operations across the UK with over 11 million square feet of warehouse space, employing over 14,000 colleagues.

We deliver over 1.8 billion cases per year across a multi-format estate and our fleet of over 3,000 vehicles travel 90 million miles per annum.

Innovation is at the heart of ALS and we were the first of the big four to bring Click & Collect in-house and our delivery cost-per-case is industry leading.  Our colleagues are our continuous improvement champions, constantly seeking opportununities to deliver cost effective solutions, that don‘t compromise on customer satisfaction and delight.

ALS is committed to reducing its carbon footprint through its Fewer Cheaper Miles Policy. Asda Logistics Services‘ vehicles today travel 14% less per annum than in 2006, thanks to the introduction of aerodynamic cabs, longer-deck trailers, enhanced driver training and efficient fuel management.

In 2005 we outlined specific goals to reduce our carbon footprint and transport carbon emissions by 60% by the end of 2015.  We are well on the way to reaching our target and have recently invested in Ecolution fleet, 50 LNG dual fuel trucks and low sound level refrigeration units.

We will continue to leverage value, share resources and best practice across our estate.  Home Shopping Centres and the Grocery Home Shopping Fleet moved to ALS this year, and will undergo major mechanisation of processes, increasing capacity and improving productivity to support the growing demand for online retail.
