The Netherlands will introduce the truck toll on Wednesday 1 July. Once implemented, truck owners will pay per kilometre, as in other European countries. The cleaner and lighter the vehicle, the lower the amount per kilometre.
The truck toll will affect Dutch and foreign vehicles in categories N2 and N3, and they must have an onboard unit (OBU) that is suitable for use in the Netherlands and will need a valid contract with a service provider. These providers ensure that the correct truck mileage is recorded and therefore the correct Dutch truck toll is collected. Netherlands works with EETS providers and a national provider.

The truck toll will apply to nearly all Dutch highways, and some provincial and municipal roads. The Eurovignette for the Netherlands will end once the toll is enacted, but for Sweden and Luxembourg the Eurovignette will remain.
Once the toll is in place, truck’s onboard units must always be on when driving in the Netherlands, even on roads that are not subject to the truck toll. Without a functioning onboard unit from a valid provider, the owner of the truck may receive a fine. If the onboard unit is broken or lost, they must arrange for a replacement onboard unit within 3 hours.
It is vital that payment is arranged on time, and onboard units are arranged prior to travelling to the Netherlands.
